NCQA’s Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Recognition is the most widely adopted PCMH evaluation program in the country.

he Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI) and United Community and Family Services (UCFS) are launching a five-year initiative to improve the treatment of substance use disorders for transitional-aged youth in eastern Connecticut. The Connecticut Treatment Expansion and Enhancement (CT-TREE) initiative is funded by a $2.7 million grant from the Substance Abuse and More than 100 years ago, 1876 to be exact, Mrs. Fannie Palmer and Mrs. Emily Davies walked across the Norwichtown Green one afternoon and discussed the development of an association that would relieve all forms of suffering. Their idea was the foundation for what is today, UCFS Healthcare.
Fourteen years ago, UCFS created an award to recognize individuals in the community who have fostered an environment of community spirit and understanding that reflects the mission and organization’s values, much in UCFS Healthcare is accepting nominations for the 2019 Palmer Davies Leadership Award, which recognizes an outstanding leader in the community who has improved the health and well-being of the community or region through advocacy, leadership and by fostering a community spirit that reflects the mission and values of UCFS.
Nomination forms are available at ucfshealthcare.org or by calling Pam Kinder at 860.822.4146. Completed nomination forms are due by Friday, August 23. These staff members are on the front lines, meeting with clients and putting them in touch with necessary social supports such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and UCFS is looking for contractors to bid on the renovation of our New London office.

The aim of this $3000 grant is to provide additional training to staff in the risk factors, warning signs, and prevention of DMST, and establish new therapy for at-risk youths with the goal of preventing future DMST victimization. Founded in 1989 by Harvard Medical School physicians, Best Doctors is a global benefits provider that serves more than 40 million members in every major region of the world. Since then, Best Doctors has conducted one of the largest ongoing polls in health care to identify the physicians that other physicians trust most. Their global database includes more than 50,000 physicians in over 450 specialties and subspecialties, with Dr. Bregman recognized under Pediatric Specialist/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry A new vaccine management system, refrigerators, and a freezer for five health center sites of United Community and Family Services will now be a reality thanks to a $64,431 grant from CHEFA, the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority. UCFS is the largest health agency dedicated to serving the medical, dental, and behavioral health needs of the Eastern Connecticut community. The grant was made in November, 2017 and the much needed equipment is now arriving at UCFS locations.

UCFS is pleased to announce we have been recognized as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace (BFW) by the Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition. This award recognizes UCFS for supporting working mothers in meeting their breastfeeding goals.
BFW supports women by creating a supportive atmosphere for moms returning to work, allowing flexible break times to express breast milk until baby’s first birthday, and providing private, accessible, sanitary space to express milk.
“Being out front as a Breastfeeding UCFS is proud to announce that they have partnered with Kelly Middle School and Girls on the Run to sponsor a Girls on the Run program this fall for 7th and 8th grade girls at Kelly Middle School. The program runs for 10 weeks and the girls meet twice each week to discuss motivational topics UCFS is proud to announce that they will hold their first annual Food Drive to benefit the Rosalyn Allen Food Pantry on November 4th, 2017 from 11 am – 4 pm at the Norwich Stop & Shop. Non-perishable food items will be accepted to fill emergency bags for UCFS clients in immediate need of food assistance.
The Rosalyn Allen Food Pantry opened in January 2017 to help UCFS clients who experience food insecurities. Since January we have provided food to 1, 300 clients. When any client visiting a healthcare

Funding will be used to purchase dental kits for diabetic, hypertensive, and behavioral health clients of UCFS’s Griswold and Plainfield Health Centers. Clients with these diagnoses are at higher risk for oral health disease which is also linked to higher rates of heart attack. Preventative dental services are available at UCFS’s Griswold and Norwich locations, and include oral health examinations, Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced an award of $40,000 to United Community and Family Services, Inc. as part of its quality improvement initiative to support Federally Qualified Health Centers in their efforts to deliver superior health care that engages patients, improved care coordination and bridges overall access to care. Nancy Cowser, Senior Vice President of Strategy at UCFS has been appointed to the Population Health Council for the Connecticut State Innovation Model (SIM). The purpose of the Council is to advise on the population health planning initiative by developing strategies to: a) maintain a system of overall population health metrics, b) establish community-based prevention service centers, and c) designate health enhancement communities.
As a member of this committee, Nancy will work with other UCFS invites you to walk with Dr. RachnaWalia as we kick off the Walk with A Doc program. Walk with A Doc is a national non-profit organization that encourages healthy physical activity for people of all ages. Additional walks will be held on July 9th, August 6th, September 3rd and October 1st.

UCFS is pleased to announce that Becky Moore, LPC at the UCFS Colchester office has become nationally certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidenced based treatment that helps children and adolescents recover from traumatic events that have occurred in their lives. The model is a short term, structured model involving both the youth and the caregiver. Research has shown It is our pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Joel Bregman to the behavioral health team at UCFS. Dr. Bregman is a Board Certified general, child and adolescent psychiatrist with expertise in the treatment of those with autism spectrum disorders and related conditions.
Dr. Bregman graduated from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine.
